Water
The lake. I visit every summer, and things never change. A rare constant in my life. Mid-July, the water is clear and warm and the fish are plentiful. The beach, weed free, provides the perfect place to lay and think. Though the lake is busy during the day, filled with fishing boats towing young kids on a tube, kayakers, and families splashing in the water, I like it best as the sun sets. One by one, the boats and families head back to shore to eat burgers and start roasting marshmallows, as the sun starts to lowers towards the horizon. This is my favorite time, just to go sit on the beach and watch the sun as it lowers and spills bright colors across the sky. The waves crash to the sand, the memory of the motorboats still present even after they parked and left for the day. Then, as the last bit of light leaves the sky, and the water has calmed, the stars start to appear. Laughter floats across the water, as memories are made, and I feel calm.
